Llawrenny Peaks and Terror Peak, 30 December 2011 - 3 January 2012

Five days of stunning sunshine in Fiordland, and an adventurous trip including thick scrub, steep scrambling and a new route up the unclimbed south face of Terror Peak. Day 1: Starting at Deepwater Basin, we paddled across Milford Sound to the Sinbad Gully river mouth, then followed a DoC track on the true right all the way to the head of the valley. Day 2: Up the spur north of the Llawrenny Peaks and through some abominable scrub into the basin at the foot of the Sinbad Wall, then back onto the spur, and on to a scenic campsite at the edge of the glacier. Best New Years eve location ever! Day 3: We climbed the highest of the Llawrenny Peaks, then crossed the outlet of Lake Terror and up the south face of Terror Peak. Back around the east side of Lake Terror, and over the Llawrenny Peaks. Day 4 and 5, we went back the way we had come. Party: James Thornton, Nina Dickerhof, Danilo Hegg

Sad to see the always happy Nina slightly discouraged at the end of the journey. Probably completely forgotten by now. Take good care of yourselves, so that you grow old to look back at these beautiful photos with the knowledge that you lived your youth to the fullest extent, in a most impressive place on the globe.
